New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough made his sixth career NFL start against the Carolina Panthers in Week 15 at the Caesars Superdome on Sunday, delivering a second consecutive victory for the team.
Shough led the Saints to a hard-fought 20-17 comeback win over the Panthers, showcasing a gutsy performance despite entering the medical tent after a tough hit. This victory marked Shough’s second win over the Panthers this season; he also led the Saints to a win against Carolina back in Week 10 during his second career start.
The Saints (4-10) have now won back-to-back games for the first time in 2025, with three of those wins coming with Shough as the starting quarterback. Times-Picayune columnist Jeff Duncan remarked, “you could make a case that Tyler Shough is the best quarterback in the NFC South right now.”
Shough’s record against NFC South opponents now stands at an impressive 3-1, including two wins over the Panthers and one over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers—teams currently tied for first place in the division at 7-7.
In the Week 15 game, Shough completed 24 of 32 passes (75%) for 272 yards, threw 1 touchdown, and had no interceptions. He also contributed a team-high 32 rushing yards on 8 carries. Trizzy Trace on X highlighted, “Tyler Shough’s legs are a weapon.”
WDSU’s Fletcher Mackel tweeted, “NOLA has a QB1,” after Shough led a 78-yard Saints scoring drive capped by a 12-yard touchdown pass to Chris Olave that tied the game at 17.
While many were encouraged by Shough’s performance, some noted areas for improvement. Drew Cook on X pointed out, “the lack of chemistry between Tyler Shough and (Saints wide receiver) Chris Olave is painful.”
Overall, Tyler Shough continues to prove himself as a pivotal player for the Saints as they eye a stronger finish to their season.
