Staten Island bowling: Farrell alums claim New Year’s Eve Battle of the Schools

**Monsignor Farrell Alumni Team Wins New Year’s Eve Battle of the Schools**

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Monsignor Farrell alumni team captured the annual New Year’s Eve Battle of the Schools on Wednesday at Rab’s Country Lanes. The winning quintet—Rob D’Onofrio, Nick Siggia, Dan Dunleavy, Steve McNichol, and Scott Porto—defeated Susan Wagner 457-441 in the title game, which was played using a two-game Baker format featuring alternating shots.

This tournament has become one of the most popular events on the local bowling calendar. The Lions were seeded second after 10 games of qualifying, while Susan Wagner entered as the fourth seed.

Top-seeded McKee/Staten Island Tech 2 fell to Susan Wagner, 477-419, in the semifinals. Meanwhile, Monsignor Farrell defeated the No. 3 seed St. Peter’s 457-373 in the other semifinal matchup.

Beyond competition, the Battle of the Schools is dedicated to giving back. Bowlers not only compete for bragging rights but also donate their winnings to support their alma maters’ bowling programs.

“In conjunction with the Rab’s Wilkinson Foundation and the participating bowlers, we were able to award $2,000 to local high school bowling programs,” said tournament director Michael Ruffe.

The winning Monsignor Farrell squad earned $1,000 for their bowling program, while Susan Wagner received $500 for the Falcons’ team. McKee/Staten Island Tech 2 and St. Peter’s split $500 to support their respective schools.

**Additional Notes:**
The tournament attracted 78 bowlers, comprising 16 teams representing 11 participating schools. Full results are available at [bowlatrabs.com](http://bowlatrabs.com).
