Israel has taken everything from Palestinian journalist Motasem Ahmed Dalloul – yet they cannot silence him

Palestinian journalist Motasem Ahmed Dalloul is from Gaza City. He studied International Journalism in London and currently works as a Staff Writer for Middle East Monitor. Throughout the ongoing genocide in Gaza, Motasem has lived and worked in his hometown, paying a heavy price for speaking the truth. Despite the dangers, he remains determined to continue reporting on his people’s suffering and the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation.

Motasem risked his life to find food, but tragically, his wife and baby were killed instead. He has not left Gaza City in the past two years, even though he has been forcibly displaced 13 times. Since their family home was attacked and destroyed in November 2023, Motasem and his family have had to stay in numerous locations, constantly moving to escape Israeli ground incursions. They are currently living in a tent.

Near the end of February 2024, an Israeli occupation airstrike targeted his neighbor’s house. During this attack, Dalloul’s three-year-old son, Abu Baker, along with other family members, lost their lives. Despite these unimaginable losses and ongoing threats, Motasem continues his vital work to shed light on the realities faced by Palestinians under occupation.
