He made these remarks during a podcast hosted by tech investors Brad Gerstner and Bill Gurley, highlighting China’s rapid progress in semiconductor development and manufacturing capabilities.

Expressing hope for continued openness, Huang emphasized the importance of China maintaining access for foreign investment. “Beijing has promised to keep an open market,” he noted during the podcast. “What’s in the best interest of China is for foreign companies to invest in China, compete in China, and for them to also have vibrant competition themselves.”

NVIDIA’s graphics processing units (GPUs) have become the backbone of artificial intelligence (AI) model training and operations, driving the company’s market capitalization to record highs. However, sales to China — one of the world’s largest markets — have faced disruption amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
Earlier this year, the US abruptly banned exports of H20, a downgraded chip designed to comply with existing restrictions. This decision was later softened following an agreement on a 15% levy between NVIDIA and the US government, allowing some resumption of trade.
