Renault has issued a warning to its UK customers to remain vigilant after a data breach incident involving one of its third-party service providers. The French carmaker confirmed that while no financial information such as passwords or bank details was compromised, other personal data was accessed.

### Details of the Breach

The compromised data includes customer names, addresses, dates of birth, gender, phone numbers, vehicle identification numbers (VINs), and vehicle registration details. A Renault spokesperson stated that they are collaborating closely with the third-party provider to ensure all necessary measures are taken to mitigate the issue. “We have notified all relevant authorities,” the spokesperson added.

### Customer Notification

Renault UK has confirmed that individuals affected by the breach will be informed directly. Notably, the company pointed out that the breach may impact a broader group of people, including those who participated in competitions or shared their information with Renault without purchasing a vehicle. This means that non-customers could also be among those affected.

### Rising Concerns Over Cybersecurity

The cyber-attack on Renault is part of a growing pattern of cybersecurity incidents targeting businesses across various sectors. Recently, companies such as Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and brewing giant Asahi faced similar attacks, forcing temporary production halts. Earlier in the year, Marks & Spencer (M&S) and Co-Op experienced breaches that disrupted supply chains and customer orders while compromising shopper data.

These incidents highlight the escalating threat of cyber-attacks and underscore the importance of heightened security measures and vigilance for both businesses and consumers alike.
