Dolphins’ Darren Waller gets positive injury update, is week-to-week with pec tear

The Miami Dolphins may have hit rock bottom, and their head coach’s future hangs in the balance. However, there is some good news following a positive injury update on tight end Darren Waller.

According to a post on X by Ian Rapoport, Waller suffered a pec strain—not a full tear—and is considered week-to-week.
“Sources: #Dolphins TE Darren Waller suffered a pec strain, not a full tear, and he is considered week-to-week. Some good news after the MRI,” Rapoport shared.

Earlier reports had raised fears of a season-ending injury for Waller. Josh Moser posted on X that Drew Rosenhaus, Waller’s agent, said the tight end suffered a “pec strain” in the loss to the Cleveland Browns and would undergo an MRI on Monday morning.
“If it’s torn, it could be a season-ending injury. Hoping for clean imaging and good news,” Moser wrote.

### Darren Waller’s Impact on the Dolphins

After missing all of 2024, Waller made his return to the field with the Dolphins. In just four games, he caught 10 passes for 117 yards and, more importantly, hauled in four touchdown catches. Waller has emerged as a crucial Red Zone threat, especially following the injury to superstar receiver Tyreek Hill.

However, Waller has not been utilized consistently by the Dolphins’ offense. Over the four games, he was targeted only 12 times, and notably, he didn’t receive a single target before leaving Sunday’s game against the Browns. This lack of involvement appears to reflect a team that has clearly lost its way.

### Dolphins Facing a Difficult Season

The Dolphins are currently enduring a disastrous 1-6 start to the season. Their recent 31-6 loss to the Browns—who entered the game with a 1-5 record—only added to their woes.

Even if Waller manages a quicker return, the team’s outlook remains bleak, and they are on track for a high draft pick. This impending draft position could introduce new challenges. Will the Dolphins pursue a franchise quarterback, or will they stick with Tua Tagovailoa despite his declining performance? Tagovailoa is posting the worst numbers of his six-year NFL career, with just 11 touchdown passes against 10 interceptions.

As the Dolphins try to navigate this difficult stretch, the future of both their roster and coaching staff hangs in the balance. Darren Waller’s health and continued contribution could be one of the few bright spots in an otherwise troubling season.
