Sean “Diddy” Combs moved to federal prison in New Jersey

Sean “Diddy” Combs has been transferred to a federal prison in New Jersey following his conviction and sentencing on prostitution-related charges in New York, according to online prison records.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons reports that the music mogul is now housed at the Federal Correctional Institution Fort Dix (FCI Fort Dix) in New Jersey. As recently as Monday, Combs was held at a detention center in Brooklyn, New York, per bureau records.

A spokesperson for Combs declined to comment on this latest development to CBS News. However, Combs’ legal team had previously requested that he serve his sentence at FCI Fort Dix to better address drug abuse issues and maximize opportunities for family visits and rehabilitation efforts. This request was outlined in a letter sent to the presiding judge.

FCI Fort Dix is located within the military’s Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, situated northeast of Philadelphia. The base is a combined facility, formed in 2009 by merging McGuire Air Force Base, Fort Dix Army Base, and Lakehurst Naval Air Station.

Earlier this month, the 55-year-old Combs was sentenced to just over four years in prison after being convicted on two counts of violating the Mann Act. This federal law prohibits transporting any person “for the purpose of prostitution or debauchery, or for any other immoral purpose.” Combs is currently appealing both his conviction and sentence.

Combs was acquitted of the more severe charges of sex trafficking and racketeering at the conclusion of his highly publicized criminal trial in New York City in July 2024. He has remained in custody since his arrest in September 2024. His anticipated release date is May 2028.

At FCI Fort Dix, Combs will be one of more than 4,100 inmates, according to the prison’s official website. The facility is described as a low-security federal correctional institution with an adjacent minimum-security satellite camp.
