CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Thijs De Ridder made an impressive collegiate debut, scoring 21 points on 10-of-14 shooting and grabbing 10 rebounds as Virginia opened its season with a commanding 87-53 victory over Rider.
De Ridder’s strong performance set the tone for the Cavaliers, who received solid contributions from several other players. Four additional Cavaliers reached double figures: Johann Grunloh scored 12 points, while Sam Lewis, Chance Mallory, and Jacari White each added 11 points.
The Cavaliers’ balanced attack and solid defense helped them secure a decisive win in their season opener.
