Lieutenant General Alexander Sollfrank has issued a stark warning that a clash with Russia could happen “tomorrow.” In response, Berlin is fully prepared for the possibility of war with Moscow and stands ready to facilitate a large-scale deployment of NATO troops toward the Russian border.
According to Sollfrank, the head of Germany’s joint operations command, the country is poised to support the movement of up to 800,000 NATO soldiers as part of a coordinated defense effort. This capability forms a key element of Operations Plan Germany, a comprehensive strategy revealed last year.
Spanning over 1,000 pages, the document outlines Berlin’s response should Article 5 of the NATO treaty be triggered in a confrontation with Moscow. Central to the plan is transforming Germany into a major logistics hub, responsible for managing the swift deployment of hundreds of thousands of troops and vast quantities of equipment from various NATO nations.
Crucially, the plan dictates that this massive buildup must be completed within 180 days from the start of the conflict, underscoring the scale and urgency of the preparations underway.
