**German Far-Right Activist Seeks Asylum in U.S. as Trump Ties Deepen**

Naomi Seibt, a social media influencer and supporter of Germany’s nationalist Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, has applied for political asylum in the United States, citing fears for her safety amid growing political tensions in her home country.
Seibt, 25, is aligned with the far-right and anti-immigration AfD party, which German authorities have labeled extremist. She claims she is being persecuted in Germany for her political views, stating that she is the “target of intelligence surveillance,” the subject of “state media defamation,” and has received “death threats from antifa,” a loosely organized group opposing fascism.
The activist recently shared a letter from German domestic intelligence that documents the monitoring of her activities. She explained that this surveillance was a decisive factor in her decision to seek asylum. “That’s the moment when I thought, I cannot return to Germany safely,” Seibt said in an interview from Washington, where she is currently living while her asylum application is processed.
Asylum seekers typically flee warzones or repressive regimes with compromised justice systems. It is unusual for a citizen of a wealthy Western democracy like Germany to apply for asylum. This case comes amid increasingly close ties between Germany’s far right and prominent figures in President Donald Trump’s MAGA movement.
Residents of Germany generally live in peaceful conditions, benefiting from a strong social safety net, leading health care systems, and a well-established rule of law. Additionally, Germans have access to the European Union’s Court of Justice and the European Court of Human Rights.
Seibt has cultivated a substantial following on social media, with more than 459,000 followers on X (formerly Twitter) and 112,000 subscribers on YouTube. Her growing influence has made her a notable figure on the far right.
