Nintendo and Sony’s live-action adaptation of *The Legend of Zelda* is currently filming in New Zealand, taking cues from another beloved fantasy blockbuster. However, the movie’s vague plot synopsis has left fans guessing which specific game from the franchise is being adapted.
Recent clips from the movie set have provided clearer hints. With nearly 40 years of rich source material, the *Legend of Zelda* series offers plenty of inspiration. Director Wes Ball and his team appear to be drawing heavily from the latest mainline entry, 2017’s *Breath of the Wild*.
A leaked clip shows Bo Bragason, portraying Princess Zelda, walking through a forest and receiving a weapon from an unidentified character. While the scene itself seems uneventful, Zelda’s blue adventuring outfit immediately stands out. She wears the signature thick leather boots, fitted pants, and fingerless gloves recognizable from *Breath of the Wild*.
There are some differences—the blouse lacks the gold stitching found on the game character’s collar, for example—but her distinctive double-plaited hairstyle makes it clear this version of Zelda is inspired by *Breath of the Wild*.
In the game, Link awakens from a 100-year slumber to find Hyrule devastated by an apocalyptic force known as Calamity Ganon, who is held at bay only by Zelda’s magic. Even if the film takes cues from this storyline, it likely won’t be a direct adaptation, especially since Princess Zelda’s screen time in *Breath of the Wild* is mostly relegated to flashbacks.
The *Legend of Zelda* movie is scheduled to premiere on May 7, 2027. Fans eager for more details will no doubt be watching closely as production continues to unfold.
