This 1977 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 is a California-specification model finished in vibrant yellow and powered by a 4.2-liter 2F inline-six engine. It features a four-speed manual transmission paired with a dual-range transfer case, offering reliable off-road capability and classic driving engagement.
The truck comes equipped with a removable hardtop sporting a white roof, 15″ steel wheels with polished hubcaps, manually locking front hubs, and BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires. Additional exterior details include aftermarket headlights, side mirrors, black rear wheel arch extensions, rear ambulance-style doors, and a rear-mounted spare tire.
Under the current ownership since 2023, the Land Cruiser has received several upgrades and maintenance work. The hardtop side panels were refinished, a PRLC front bumper and front winch were installed, and the rear bumperettes along with various emblems and light lenses were replaced. Some drilled holes are present on the right top side panel, and areas of peeling finish and other blemishes are visible along the body.
Suspension enhancements include a 2.5″ lift kit with revised leaf springs and Bilstein shocks installed in July 2024. In May 2023, Man-A-Fre anti-inversion shackles and polyurethane spring bushings were added to improve handling and durability. The steering system was also addressed, with the gearbox resealed and steering coupler replaced in 2022.
Inside, the front bucket seats were reupholstered with black vinyl and new seat foam. The interior was refreshed with gray door panels and replacement components such as a dash pad, headliner, sun visors, shift boots, and rearview mirror. The front seat back panels were refinished in silver in December 2024. The cabin features inward-facing rear jump seats, a roll bar, a heater, and a Pioneer CD stereo for added comfort and entertainment. Corrosion is noted on the inner hardtop.
The instrumentation includes a three-spoke steering wheel framing a 100-mph speedometer alongside gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, amperage, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer records 71,000 miles.
Mechanically, the 4.2-liter 2F inline-six is fuelled by a single carburetor rebuilt in 2021. That year also saw replacement of the timing cover and gasket, crankshaft seal, water pump, and thermostat. The cylinder head was resurfaced, and the engine was upgraded with high-lift valve springs, SBI exhaust valves, along with replacement intake valves and stem seals in September 2022. Additional engine maintenance includes replacing the oil pan gasket and rear main seal in August 2022, and a fuel pump replacement in 2024.
Power delivery to the rear or all four wheels is managed through the four-speed manual transmission and dual-range transfer case. The seals for the transfer case were replaced in 2021, and the transmission input shaft seal was replaced in 2022. The exhaust system was upgraded with a new muffler and components in October 2022. In December 2024, the front pinion seal was replaced to ensure optimal drivetrain performance.
This FJ40 is offered in Idaho with a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name. It includes service records, repair manuals, and spare parts to support future maintenance.
